RDB to Oracle Conversion

Currently, we have five or so different Rdb databases on a VMS platform. Many of our applications access more than one database during their run. We plan on converting all of the databases to Oracle on the same six node VMS cluster. We believe we can still set up separate databases, but we are unsure how we would access more than one database within an application, given that they are all on the same node. Is this assumption incorrect, meaning that one and only one database and instance can be present on a node, requiring us to combine all our Rdb databases into one instance?

If we have multiple instances (one for each of our databases), how would these programs connect to more than one database? The Distributed Database option seems to only be used for databases residing on separate nodes. Can we "link" databases that are on the same node?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
