Problem with Oracle 7.2.3 on Solaris 2.5

Has anyone experienced a problem defining and using a RULE hint in a view in Oracle 7.2.3 on solaris 2.5. I am upgrading from 7.1.4 on sunos 4.1.3 to Oracle 7.2.3 on solaris 2.5 using an export/import.

I have found that the exact same query executed as a view and then by direct SQL has a major performance difference when the query and view definition contain a RULE hint. The explain plan in both cases is identical just the view performs 50000 more disk accesses.

I have had the problem with Oracle support for 6 weeks and they are unable to help. This is holding up my migration.

Has anyone else noticed a problem like this.
