Hi Ibelieve its possible to use an alter tablespace statement to manually take a tablespace 'OFFLINE' if you look in a view called dba_tablespaces you will find the status of your various tablespaces this mechanism of putting an individual tablespace 'OFFLINE' is actaully added for the very purpose you intend ....
