I believe it is due to your monitor resolution and the display settings in Windows. I've been told that a monitor/display card with more memory can display all the colors at the higher resolution, but I haven't checked it out.
I have seen the ugly, drab colors when I set my monitor display to 1024x768x256, while all the colors display at 600x800x64k. You might try changing your settings to see if that makes a difference.
To change monitor settings, go to Main/Windows Setup/Options/Change System Settings/Display. BEWARE: If you select the wrong one, you will not be able to start windows. If this happens, then from DOS, run Setup from the C:\windows directory, and change the display setting back to the original value.
