I upgraded several HP/UX systems from 7.1.6 to 7.2.2.3. The systems running HP/UX 9.04 (9000/715's and 9000/735's) seem to be running fine. I have one HP 9000-K200 with dual processors, running HP/UX 10.01. The K200 has serious performance problems on large transactions. The identical transactions on the other systems cause no problems.
The basic symptom of the problem is that during or after certain large transactions (e.g., insert 8000+ records), the SMON process uses 99% of the CPU for several minutes. It seems to be coalescing free space but it is unclear why. This hinders all system users including non-Oracle users.
After several weeks of talking with Oracle support, they have indicated it may be a bug. Numerous changes to our init.ora file have yielded no improvement with this problem. Received on Thu Jan 04 1996 - 00:00:00 CET
