Paul, Yes - your description is right on the button! Oracle Mobile Agents can be used to relieve WAN congestion in addition to providing a reliable mobile communications path. I would also suggest that the back end development for the "agents" is a little more simple than the Oracle literature might imply. One simply uses an API to send and receive messages to the remote users (just as one would use OCI to get and receive data from an Oracle database).
Client PC <---LAN, WAN, dialup or wireless---> Agent <=====> Database

Earlier this month I left Oracle (after 11 years, the most recent two being in the Mobile System Group) to form a startup to provide solutions for the mobile/remote user marketplace. We will be providing a variety of applications, training, strategic consulting etc.
