It took me a few weeks to get going, but now that I understand v2.x it isn't so bad. V1.X could run almost immediately after installation, V2.X requires some configuration. The Netmanager utility can be helpful, though now I find it easier to manage the configuration files myself. A good place to start is the May/June and July/August 1995 issues of Oracle Magazine, which have articles on both SQL*Net 2.X configuration, including the multi-threaded server.
