Lost active online redo log, noarchive mode. Is this bad?

Ok. So someone with fumble fingers removed not only the
datafile for the tablespace he/she created by mistake, but
EVERYTHING in {partition}/oracle/data/this-sid.(1) Including
a control file (ok, we have other control files), some tablespace
(not that ok, but we can rebuild), and the active online redo log.
NOARCHIVEMODE, of course.
Recovering control file from the mirror file went ok. Re-creating empty data files for the dear departed went ok. But.... Dealing with the lost redo log has me stuck:
The system tells me that the datafile for the system tablespace needs more redo, but the online redo log has been lost.
Any suggestions. The oracle system admin book says we need to restore from full backup which is... um... er... not really available.
Have we really lost the _entire_ database? Includng things completly unrelated to the lost files?
(1) Hmmm. I thought I was following the OFA setup. But perhaps
system stuff should be somewhere else in the directory tree.
Thanks in advance,
