I've used SQL*Net TCP/IP with Novell's LAN Workplace for DOS and haven't had any trouble. When I boot up, I load the Novell Stack and LWFD (which dials and connects right a way). After than, I am connected and can use SQL*NET to connect to ORACLE at any time.

Check your NET.CFG file and RTFM to be sure that when you load LWFD it dials immediately and establishes a connection.
