I hate to get involved in this, but here goes ! I can over to the US in 1983 on an H1, or H2 visa. My information may be out of date, esp. on the Tax laws, but's here is how the deal worked then (1983). Most contract agencies have at least a 100% markup between what they change their customer ( in this case Oracle) and what they pay their wretched non-green card contractors. This should be compared with hiring a US employee, plus benefits, etc. Somehow, this has to be attractive to Oracle. As a non-green card contractor, I could register as a NON-RESIDENT for US tax purposes. This meant I could claim up to 16 deductions for rent, travel, food, laundry, etc. I virtually paid no tax. So it's the tax payers of this country that are footing the bill for Oracle's payroll savings. I am now a proper 'green card' bearing resident, tho' not yet a citizen. I would like to think I am an asset to the US, ( I support 3.5 citizens ), unlike 'IAIN'. I wouldn't be surprised if HIS country of origin eased his way over here, with that attitude.
