Thanks for all the responses - the problem is solved. We had the synonym set up to allow reference to another schema (though I had forgotten about it). The problem was that I had backed my database from 7.1.3.2.1 down to 7.0.16 in preparation for a forms/plsql patch and did not rerun the catalog.sql files to rebuild the data dictionary. Before everyone panics and asks me what the patch is for: The 64bit port (DEC Alpha OSF/1) has a problem with PL/SQL libraries that causes forms to memory fault during execution or upon exit. It seems to be related to date functions. I'm trying to install the patch as I write, but the rebuild had problems finding a bunch of symbols. I'll let everyone know the patch number when I get the fix in.
