As any experience with Oracle on Netware would demonstrate, 10 gigabytes is easily handled. However, there must be a significant amount of RAM on the server to handle it, due to the structure of Netware. I would recommend about 128 megs.
As you are probably aware even without experience, it largely depends on what those users are doing. If it's data entry, 35 users isn't much at all. If it is decision support work, you've got bigger problems.

For a given hardware platform, Oracle on Netware will outperform Oracle on UNIX. This is entirely due to the differences in the operating systems. Given that Oracle front and back ends are platform independent, choosing a "scalable" platform is not a requirement any more. I've seen many successful ports from UNIX to VMS or Netware to UNIX or UNIX to Netware that were accomplished in less than a day.

I must confess I am a little disturbed about how many opinions are offered on platforms and systems that you have no experience with. Frankly, it sounds like you are suggesting UNIX because it's the only thing you're familiar with. Received on Mon Sep 26 1994 - 16:11:50 CET
