OracleGlue vs. MS ODBC??

We're considering using OracleGlue to interface to a remote Oracle database. After speaking to Oracle they suggested using OracleGlue ($3000/connection) because it replaces ODBC and is faster.
We are developing in Visual Basic and my understanding is that OracleGlue uses a DLL for its interface.
So... How would I do database queries via this DLL?
Is it truely faster than ODBC?
Since I have to use a DLL I'm assuming that I can't link
a VB data object to my oracle connection. Right?
