Are you measuring the client (application) or the server (database) side ? You might measure an increase in executable size, but in Oracle almost all executables are shared text, so will only be stored in memory once. I have talked to a few customers who have upgraded an existing application from v6 to Oracle7, and could run more efficiently in the same amount of memory.

I have to contradict this! YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY SQL*NET TO RUN MTS. When you run MTS in a standalone situation (i.e. host-based), you do need to install some of the SQL*Net v2 functionality (the installer will do this for you), but NO LICENSE IS NEEDED. This is a common misunderstanding.
