That's a huge issue. Because of Forms 4.0 deficiencies, we are looking at other tools. There are LOTS of them, all doing completely different things, different ways, on different platforms, all having different strengths and weaknesses. I guess that's one of the reasons some people will simply stay with the Oracle CDE on Oracle databases.

Access, ODBC, Paradox, or Visual Basic all are not geared very well twards what other tools will accomplish much easier in a large-scale database environment. For example, take a look at PowerBuilder, ObjectView, and SQL Windows. They are all closer to a Forms 4.0 type environment, and provide access to Oracle database specific features, etc. They all have less memory requirements, and again, all have different strengths and weaknesses.

According to the Forms 4.0 Manuals, 8M is the required minimum for Forms 4.0. I have done development on a 16M machine with absolutely no problems, with large forms (600k .fmb). I'm not sure where that number came from, as it does seem a bit high. I also have an issue with Oracle on their unusually high RAM requirements, and I have a feeling they are not going to reduce it. Even 8M machines are not as common as some software manufacturers think they are or should be.
