Online Backup Assistance

I have been enjoying the very valuable information that I have been reading here and would like ask a question.
We are using Oracle7 on AIX 3.2.5. We need to do Online backups since we do not have a window to shutdown the database.
I understand the commands that are necessary but am uncertain of how to actaully implement a completely safe and recoverable online backup scheme.
Any advice or even better, some sample shell scripts, or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
