I have installed the Oracle 7.0 ODBC driver on my PC and am now
trying to test it out using Microsoft Query. I followed the
installation
instructions and was told it completed successfully. I then checked
the
ODBC dialog box under the Control Panel and the Oracle driver was
listed
there.

Don't forget that you will need Oracle SQL*Net software to establish a connection between your PC and the server, as well. Microsoft stuff (like Access) talks to ODBC, which talks to SQL*Net, which talks to your LAN/connectivity layers (like SPX/IPX for Novell or OSI/NetBIOS for AT&T StarGROUP or TCP/IP for Ethernet), which talks to its counterpart on the server, which talks to the server-end SQL*Net services / listeners, which talk to the database.
We have a lot of people here who think they just can go into Access and be connected to our database server, forgetting that they need to be set up in ODBC and SQL*Net first. Received on Fri Jun 10 1994 - 19:19:05 CEST
