I stand corrected.

What I should have said was (courtesy of the manual):   "Transactional triggers, _together with user exits_, allow you to replace    Oracle Forms default transaction processing with functionality    appropriate to your datasource."

This applies to flat files as well as other data sources. User exits may affect portability, but this type of facility will be of great assistance in satisfying custom requirements. And it remains within the Forms environment. Custom data loads, custom interfaces and enquiries from related systems are all areas which spring to mind.

Bob, Appendix I, Vol 2 of the Forms4 Reference Manual covers this topic, and may help you in your task.

Thanks for the clarification Steve. I wasn't aware of the TOOLS_IO package, but I will check it out in Graphics.
