hi out there,, was wondering if any one could give me some hints ?? thanks!!

Currently, I am getting an ASYNC error on a single database writer trace file. After talking with Oracle Support the DB Writer is looking for a specific file called 'async' in the /dev directory. The question that still remains is how do we create this device.

Oracle's description of the file it is a 'CHARACTER BLOCK DEVICE THAT IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH A DEVICE', which sounds exactly like the HP's psuedo driver.

Fortunately HP mentions psuedo drivers, but gives no explanation on how to set them up when enter Major and Minor numbers for the device with the 'mknod' command.

Is anyone familar with setting up psuedo drivers on the HP or specific knowledge of this database writer error. This error is not a fatal error, but could hinder performance if Oracle is opening the database files with the O_SYNC option set.
