I have used slip to connect SQL*Plus/Windows, via NetManage's Chameleon to a Sun based Oracle system. Performance was almost acceptable.

Same config, from a Visual Basic (V3) app, using Q+E drivers ... performance was abysmal. The problem here was in the VB app & the amount of traffic generated.

Time to configure the test system ... about 1/2 hour, once SLIP was running on the host.
