After looking at Oracle Forms Designer with extensive diagnostic tools and finding that we do not run into memory leaks except under extreme circumstances (very extreme) I must ask what you are able to achieve in half a day that you believe are causing these symptoms?

Usually, problems with Oracle Forms are caused by network/Windows issues, not Oracle forms. If you get the "black screen of death" (Novell's term) which is characterized by a DOS-looking screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen, chances are that it isn't Oracle Forms at all, but your network setup.

You did not mention what kind of network you are operating on, but here are some things to look at:

  • Ensure that you are running the latest v1 SQL*Net product
  • Ensure that you are running SQL*Net for Windows, and NOT for DOS if you are running Windows in Enhanced mode
  • Ensure that you have patched the bugs in the Windows kernel using WW0863 from Microsoft, or an upgrade to Windows 3.11. The critical piece is that the device=*vtd driver is replaced with vtda.386 * Ensure that you have the latest network drivers, properly installed. For SPX, this requires that you properly install DOSUP9 and WINUP9 from Novell.
  • Make sure the following parameters are correct in your SYSTEM.INI: TimerCriticalSection=1000 SystemROMBreakPoint=false MaxBPs=768 OverlappedIO=off InDOSPolling=false
