Under UNIX SVR4 one must tune appropriate shared memory segments and semaphores for Oracle. Your shared memory segments and the number of semaphores must be adequate to support your SID's SGA size. Not sure about Ultrix - I suggest you revert to the Oracle installation manual for your specific platform. More than likely your current shared memory configuration will not support the medium SGA. You should also read the db aministration manual and review the init.ora parameters. This will help you understand the make up of the SGA and the effect of specific parameters.
