GUENTER -- Typically, if you are trying to issue your own SAVEPOINTS
and ROLLBACK TO SAVEPOINTS, it means you're doing too much
work. Forms automatically handles savepoints at the start
of the commit process, and rolls back to it in case of any
error. This presumes you let Oracle Forms do all of its
default processing for the communication of your changes to
the databse. That's just from my experience, that some
people don't understand what Forms does automatically for
them. I've seen situations where people are literally
re-inventing the wheel with all of their own FETCH, INSERT,
UPDATE, and DELETE code to make the changes happen.
Probably not your case, but just to explain why I bring up
the point that most people who ask the question about
savepoints are trying "too hard". :-)
However, if you've determined you do need to do this, and
you are aware of the implications that issuing your own
Rollback to Savepoints could have on Oracle Forms's
outstanding locks if you use them irresponsibly, then you
can look at the built-in commands:
Issue_Savepoint()
and
Issue_Rollback()
Which do exactly what you want. Hope this helps.
