Connecting ORACLE to PROGRESS

Our department is currenlty using ORACLE 6.X on an Intergraph CAD system, and we're using PROGRESS on an HP-G30 database server.
Since PROGRESS can approach ORACLE databases through a gateway, I was wondering if someone has experience with that, and what additional products you would need. I heard rumours that not only the gateway was necessary, but that you would also need SQL*NET on both the PROGRESS machine, as well as the ORACLE machine. Now is that true ?
