In view of the recent discussion here about Oracle7's misleading TPC numbers using discrete transactions...

Just read a news item (from NewsWire!) that Oracle has threatened to sue the Standish Group for Standish's recent article where they wrote about Oracle's use of discrete transactions in their TPC-A and -B benchmark results with Oracle7.

Basically, Standish says that Oracle did not get much advantage out of Oracle7 except for using this feature (with which Oracle showed a performance gain of 100% over Oracle6 for many systems).

Oracle is threatening to sue for libel, and violations of Lanham Act (what is it?), etc. The news article also quoted Jim Johnson of Standish who wrote the article in question that he is standing behind his article and challenges Oracle to prove him wrong.

It would be interesting to see if Oracle actually publishes TPC-A numbers using Oracle7, but without using discrete transactions. I think if Oracle does go through with the threat, then these data will be disclosed as a part of the lawsuit. This is something that Oracle has resisted for a long time!!
