What platform for Oracle for $20K: UNIX, 486/Pentium, VAX?

Our lab is about to get an Oracle database server, and we're trying to decide what platform to put it on. We have PCs, Sun workstations, and a pair of VAXen, all of which will be clients. We'd rather not go with a new VAX - our existing ones are too doglike. The other tech folks here are more familiar with PC stuff, so they want to get a fast 486 or a Pentium machine running Novell.
I, on the other hand, being a Sun sysadmin, think a UNIX machine *ought* to give us better price/performance features. Anyone got any statistics or logic to back me up (or counter me) on this ? They're looking at a 20-user license for Oracle, although I think it'll be quite rare that they have more than a couple users, for the forseeable future. Oh, yeah, they want to put on about 5 MB now, and more (probably) later. They can get 1MB for $1630 (gov't rates) on the 486/Pentium PC. We want to compare what we can get hardware-wise for about $20K (including drives). SPECMarks would be helpful. Tales of experience are welcome.
