Hello,

I am rather new to Oracle development. I wanted to run a few of my ideas by the gurus to see if I'm headed in the wrong direction.

My company is about to convert a large DOS-OS/2 system of approx 800 programs from Micro Focus Cobol indexed file structures to an Oracle database. Since Oracle doesn't keep their Pro*Cobol compiler current, we have decided to write all the Oracle calls in Pro*C. These functions would be called from Cobol.

We are hoping to concurrently convert to Dos, Windows 3.1, OS/2 2.1, and (maybe) Unix (all these platforms are supported by Micro Focus and Oracle).

Now for the questions. ;)

  1. Has anyone out there tried this??
  2. Can anyone give me pointers on adding the C functions to the Micro Focus support libraries (on dos only, we will build dll's for Windoze and OS/2)
  3. I am assuming that I will have to convert the C Oracle structures to Cobol structures, include them in my Cobol, and specify them as external in the C code. Am I correct in this assumption??
  4. Does anyone want my job?!?!?!

  Thanks for any help,
