shutdown problem SVR4 - processes left around

Environment

	oracle 6.0.34.3.?
	NCR
	SVR4
	Two-task

Problem
	Do shutdown in SQL DBA
	Get messages saying  database closed, dismounted and the operation
	completed.  But there are still processes floating around

Any clues?
