looking for better database system

we are looking for a DBMS running on MAC and UNIX workstations offering at least the following features:

good support for MAC version. We tested Oracle and were not satisfied with their mainly mainframe orientied support.

SQL (ANSI Level II)

very good performance and reasonable resource requirements. Oracle and Butler are way too bad in either one or both cases.

We need to be able to handle picture data (large!), like Quick-Time Movies.

Any hints appreciated!
