I'm preparing a new system which should be able to log login and data access. In order to find out the logging possibilities I have been doing some experiments with Oracle's auditing facilities.
Some strange results have come out of these experiments:
- in one oracle installation upon inserting into or updating a table with a unique index the returncode field in the user_audit_trail views contains the value 0 even if the transaction was rejected due to duplicate key value.
- in another installation rows are inserted into the user_audit_trail upon user logon/logoff but not upon object access. (Yes auditing on the tables has been switched on, they can be inspected through the user_tab_audit_opts view).
Any experiences with Oracle auditing out there ?
