Problem with Pro*C/C++ linking using oracle 9.2.0 libraries

When compiling an application using ProC*/C++, in linux, using the demo_proc.mk included with oracle, I am getting the following errors during the linking phase of the compilation:

I have been working on this for a couple of days now, and everything I have tried has ended in a brick wall. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?
