DATESYSDATE=`sqlplus -s scott/tiger <<EOF
set heading off
set pagesize 0
set termout on
set wrap on
set feedback off
set echo off
set serveroutput on
select sysdate from dual;
exit
EOF`
Which put the date in the Unix Shell variable DATESYSDATE
