External images in dev/2000

Need advice about using images in dev/2000.

Our system will store about 7000 new images a year. Most of these are scanned photographs. The images need to be viewable at clients and uploadable from clients.

With Dev/2000 images may be stored in the database or in external files. We can meet most requirements storing images in the database, in which case Dev/2000 will perform the upload and download itself.

But the client wants them to be stored externally to keep the database small.
Also, storing images in the database will make logs and archive logs larger.

However, when images are stored in external files on the server, it is not clear what is a goodmethod to move a file from the client to the server.
Or the other way.

Any advice very welcome.
