Problems accessing numeric fields using VB and Interdev

I've got an Oracle 8i table with many NUMBER(10) typed fields and whenever I access these fields from VB or Interdev code, the value returned is always zero.
I can view the same data thru a linked Access database, and I can read/write the numeric fields. Since both Access and my VB code are getting to the table using ODBC, I cannot understand what could be wrong.
Any ideas?
