Hawk Associates has been engaged to conduct an executive search for the Director of Data Warehousing for a major Philadelphia area client. The details as created by the client appear below.
The description of this position is as follows:
This position is responsible for 3 major functions, 1) Lead an enterprise wide effort to establish a Data Warehouse and provide the corresponding decision support tools to meet a defined set of the information needs.
2) Perform the leadership, analysis and design tasks needed to develop an enterprise wide data architecture.
3) Manage ISD's Database Administration function in a manner that delivers to ISD's application development staff the database design, modeling, and construction support that they need.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES:
- Understand client’s business drivers in order to predict client's
information and decision support needs.
- Analyze trends in the Database arena to determine potential opportunities and impacts on client.
- Educate the senior management of client and the management of ISD on the application, benefits, and costs of a Data Warehouse and Data Architecture.
- Gain financial support for the implementation and enhancement of a Data Warehouse and Data Architecture.
- Design and manage the implementation of an enterprise wide Data Warehouse and a Data Architecture.
- Identify and provide the Database tools and methodologies that client's application development staff needs to develop applications as effectively as possible.
- Design and direct the governance activities associated with ensuring compliance with the Data Architecture
- Oversee the establishment of Database standards.
- Review application development projects to fit systems to the Data Architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the Data Architecture to accommodate project needs.
- Manage the Data Administration function including data modeling, logical and physical database design, database construction, resource management, as well as establishing database backup and recovery processes.
- Identify personnel development needs of the areas managed and ensure that they are met.
- Participate in ISD (Information Systems Division) wide initiatives and provide support to other ISD as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Manage ISD technical staff of 10 to 20
- Respected leader
- Strong believer in value of properly managed information and architectures
- Ability to successfully communicate with senior business managers as well as manage technical and business personnel on complex assignments.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to establish a reputation of competence and trust amongst all involved parties.
- Solid interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Understanding of the political climate of an enterprise and how to navigate through the politics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
TECHNICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years application development experience, with database intensive systems, including experience in developing a Data Warehouse.
- Excellent analytical and technical capabilities.
- In depth knowledge of relational databases - DB2, Oracle and SQL Server
- Strong understanding of Data Warehouse systems and Database Architectures.
- Ability to translate business needs into Data Warehouse and Database Architecture requirements.
- Full knowledge of application development life cycle phases including: Requirements Definition Logical and Physical Design Construction Systems Testing
- Full understanding of the Database Administration function.
- Strong grasp of the functions of a Managed Care business and the ways that information and decision support systems can enable the business to meet its goals.
Requirements also include BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, a related field of study or equivalent experience.
