Director of Technical Services

Overview: A proven senior technical manager to be part of the management team responsible for profitably managing all technical interaction with customers. This person will create this department in existing Field Operations organization.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the President of Field Operations.
Responsibilities: The position has the following responsibilies:
New Initiatives
Create a department capable of accomplishing the technical tasks demanded
by customers. This department needs technical design, documentation,
testing, coding, technical project management and DBA skills. This
involves hiring, training, leading by example, developing technical and
operational processes.
On-Going Responsibilities
Manage resources so that they are as close to fully billable as possible.
Coordinate activities with the Development, Consulting and Support
organizations so that we present one voice to the customer and take
advantage of synergies between the functions.
Manage all customer installations. This includes new installs and upgrades
of existing customers.
Manage all beta site interaction. This includes problem definition and
resolution, project planning and project execution. Provide detailed sales
support for Conference Room Pilot purposes Provide technical configuration
services to configure data exchange module and other site-specific
technical tasks like tuning, topology, etc. Manage entire development
process for customer-initiated non-core enhancements. This includes
design, build, test, and documentation functions. Manage the problem
definition process for customer enhancements that will become part of our
core product.
Oracle 7 database with heavy server focus for code (PL/SQL) Oracle
Developer/2000 for client screens and reports Oracle Designer/2000 for
design repository PVCS Source Code control
Unix and NT database servers
NT clients
Ideal Candidate
General
5-10 years experience in a software development environment, preferably
for a software company.
At least 3 years experience in a team leadership role. Proven success in
leading 5-10 developers to produce results on time and with quality.
Proven experience in implementing and enforcing technical standards,
documention and training
Business Experience
Application experience with logistics management systems (order entry,
inventory control, A/R, shipment management).
Application experience with EDI and data exchange to outside systems and
legacy systems.
Experience with import/export would be a plus.
Technical
Oracle back end using PL/SQL and stored procedures and packages
Developer/2000 (Oracle forms) front end
Designer/2000(Oracle Case) design repository Unix and NT servers.
Development Director

Overview: A proven senior technical manager to be part of the the management team responsible for developing new releases of our product line.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering,
Responsibilities: The position has the following responsibilies:
Direct:
1. Develop and maintain the development project plan. This involves
coordination with the Development management (Technology Director and the
VP of Engineering) and Product management to determine schedules and
feature sets. 2. Manage all development staff from a salary and
performance perspective. Manage staff development and training.
3. Develop and maintain the development budget. Manage all time tracking
of staff to develop metrics on development. Manage billing of all
customer-financed development.
4. Manage the product release schedule, that is, resources, functions, and
dates.
5. Hiring responsibility for new staff.
6. Development and maintenance of development alliances.
Staff Management:
1. Quality Assurance Department (currently 2 people, budgeted to be 4 by
12/31/98). Up to 5 outside consultants have worked in this function in the
past year. This department is responsible for the quality of the product.
2. Documentation Department (currently 3 people, budgeted to be 4 by
12/31/98).
Up to 3 outside consultants have worked in this function in the past year.
This department writes user and technical documentation. 3. Internal
Systems Department (currently 3 people, budgeted to be 4 by 12/31/98).
This department maintains all internal networks and systems except
development systems. It works closely with the Development DBA function to
coordinate all company systems.
