Property colors are controlled in the "Options" menu (used to be Edit -> Preferences in R1.3.2).

"Red" properties are mandatory properties, e.g. cannot be NULL. Red is also used to indicate that there is something incorrect in the property's value.

The "format" property for an attribute will override the property in the domain. Bad idea, however. The "format" property (and the datatype property) are initially copied to the attribute when the attribute is assigned to a domain. However, if you change the domain's "format" property, you must run the "Update Attributes in Domain" utility to get them back in synch.

Attributes of type CHAR become columns with datatype of VARCHAR2, as you don't really want columns of type CHAR in Oracle.
