Have you / are you using odbcdirect or jet ? ODBC direct ...

Originally, DAO was tied to Jet, but with DAO 3.5, the DAO object interface was separated from Jet and developers were provided with an alternative—to create ODBCDirect workspaces that did not require Jet. This interface is most useful when you need the power, speed, and flexibility of RDO, but can’ t access RDO because of "licensing" issues.

Seems to work well for me...
