I have JDK6, JDK7 and JDK8 on my machines and have no problems with my java applications. Those that do not work yet with the latest and greatest have a way of telling them which JRE/JDK to use. E.g. Glassfish and Subversion Edge Console have a config file where you can specify the path to the JRE to use.

Just try it and if it does not work out, you can uninstall JDK8. These should not be any persistent problems after trying it out.
