While this may be true for x86 virtual machines like VMware, Xen and Oracle VM Server, it certainly is not for 'old school' hypervisors used today in every single IBM mainframe and the majority of their Power systems. They are all descendants from (and still compatible with!) the famous CP/CMS system initially built some 45 years ago by IBM's Cambridge Scientific Centre in cooperation with MIT's Lincoln Laboratory research centre and distributed as "open source" (in the 60's!).
