If you've read the docs, you should've noticed that this parameter is only used to compute the default value for LARGE_POOL_SIZE and only when PARALLEL_AUTOMATIC_TUNING is set to TRUE (and that this last parameter is deprecated since 10g.) So it's pretty safe to have it at any value as long as it's the same across all nodes. And you can safely override any defaults Oracle might derive from this parameter.
