| in the first paragraph that TDE is a way to protect database backup
| tapes.
Of course it protects the fields in backup because it protects them in the online files but it aims is not this one it is just a side effect. In addition, only data that are in encrypted columns are protected in your backup, on the other hand RMAN encryption protects all your data and metadata (application model, user names, ...).
