Precisely. And don't try much TNS functionality without TCP: from memory, TAF won't work without it, neither will shared server, connection pooling or connection manager. The precise bundle of lost functionality may well be different from what my poor memory can accurately recall, but the general point is a valid one: TCP is not some optional extra to be dispensed with when the going gets tricky.
