Have you read the Oracle 10g Upgrade Guide? Most of your questions will probably be answered there. You can find a copy at http://tahiti.oracle.com.

Since you are going from Solaris->Windows you will probably want to use the export/import method to upgrade. Depending on your db size, this might be the easiest option to use.
