The number of installations of 8i are getting smaller each day. That is because 8i is 3 major versions behind now and DBAs are upgrading to newer versions. There are still some 8i installations out there, but the numbers are shrinking. I would suggest a much newer version to learn on...like 10g or 11g. You'll still be able to do everything you could in 8i, plus more!
