A good alternative to learning from your own mistakes is learning from the mistakes of others. The cost is much lower. However, the first thing you have to learn is not to be dismissive of other people's mistakes. No one is a total fool, even in this industry. A mistake made by someone else is a mistake made by someone who is not a total fool.
