It's a very long journey from system administration to oracle dba.

If I were you, I would start with Tom Kyte's most recent book "Expert Oracle Database Architecture".

You really need to become expert level at oracle sql and developing oracle based applications before you can think about moving on to doing database administration IMHO. That's going to take a number of years at the minimum.
