Reg. Archive Log Problem

HI All,
Firstly im NEW to oracle and I have a problem with Archive Log.

archive log is stored under
c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\flash_recovery_area\DBNAME\ARCHIVELOG the default space allocated is 2gb.

When it reached 2GB, i got the following error and i cudnt access my database.

"The archiver hung at time/line number: Wed Mar 07 14:44:23 2007/10585664."

Later i deleted the old archive log files, now its fine. But within 2 weeks it reach the limit so anyone help me to permanently solve this prob...
