I was able to get the 10g R2 client to work with Vista - the Oracle 10.2.0.1 client is not compatible with Vista, and working around the problem is a bit of a challenge. To install on Vista, you will need the 600MB Oracle 10.2.0.1 client (I threw it on a CD), patch 5860454 (32MB), and patch set 5337014 (10.2.0.3 patch release 2, 852MB). Follow Metalink note 415166.1 very carefully. The Cancel or Allow alert will appear frequently, unless you determine how to disable those alerts.
