Are you getting any trace files? Do you have any limits set for user processes? What platform are you on? Do you have query_rewrite_enabled set?

Could be a bug too: See bug 3561624 ORA-3113 WITH > 17M HASH_AREA_SIZE AND WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY SET TO MANUAL and poke about in the later 9.2 lists of fixed bugs.
